Experimental Work Painting Frames

This experimental work was aimed at creating an historical narrative via the use of framing materials to give the suggestion that my images were dated.

Here I explored the relationship between myth and history via two academic texts,

Ruskin’s 7 Lamps of Architecture, The Stones of Venice 1851-53 and a journal article Myth, History and Theory by Peter Heehs, 1994.

Ruskin’s work focuses on how by using certain materials, the features make a difference to the construction of reality.

Heehs debates suggest that there can be no real distinction between the discourses of myth and history, between fact and fiction.

It may not be possible to separate the two because the two interpenetrate work towards a dialectical resolution. (see Chapter 1 of thesis)
