Experimental Work - Quilts
These designs have been taken from a quilt archive held within the American Museum in Bath, this museum provides a journey through the history of America, from its early settlers to the twentieth century and contains collections of decorative and folk arts. This mediated form of Americana was founded to bring an idea of American history and cultures to the UK and Europe. The site itself has a large archive of historical quilts, many that are exhibited within the museum itself. I have photographed many of the traditional quilt designs and then transferred them via Indesign software to formulate working grids on which to experiment with both film images and my own photographic work. The process of this work relate to the many layers of mediation and narrative within the historical representation of the American West.
